Training
Increased emphasis on provision of adequate training for employees is evident
in the legislation, audits and guidelines as published by all of the main governmental
bodies in New Zealand.
For example:
- Amendment to the Health and Safety in Employment Act to ensure that health
and safety representatives receive formal training
- Requirements in Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act for trained
persons to handle chemicals (“approved handlers”)
- ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices audit tool references to training – e.g.,
hazard management, accident investigation.
HaS Expertise has developed training programmes to fit these
requirements. The following are our five cornerstone “rules” for training courses:
- Training must give accurate and up-to-date information
- Training must meet legal requirements
- Training must meet client requirements (avoid generic content)
- Training must be interactive and “fun” for participants
- Comprehension must be monitored/assessed
